The beginning of the 80GHz era: A new technology for more reliability and safety in your processes

The high-accuracy Micropilot NMR81 is the world’s first radar instrument measuring levels in liquids using a transmitting frequency of 80GHz. The device was developed for high-accuracy measurement of levels in custody transfer applications and is certified for this purpose by independent test authorities. The 80GHz technology features an array of advantages:

Stay focussed Micropilot NMR81 utilizes a transmitting frequency of 80GHz, which produces a sharply focused beam angle of 3° or 4°, depending on the antenna selection. In contrast, a 10GHz radar instrument with an antenna of the same size has a beam angle of 21°. Measurement even in tall narrow tanks is highly reliable because the radar beam avoids objects such as pipes or baffles on tank walls. Deeper measurement in conical containers and longer measuring ranges Thanks to focusing, it is easier to measure down to the tank bottom using the 80GHz technology because the beam does not hit the converging interior walls. In general, longer measuring ranges than with other technologies are possible – and the accuracy stays the same. Our tank gauging expert, Micropilot NMR81, achieves maximum accuracy of ±0.5mm (1/32inch) over measuring ranges up to 30m (98ft).

3° 21°

Your benefits: • Reduction of engineering efforts due to easier integration of 80GHz radar device into tanks without taking care of objects in the tank. • Increase plant availability and productivity due to highly reliable measuring results.
